Girlfriend Getaways!
Posted by: Erik Torkells, Tuesday, Apr 17, 2007, 6:41 PM

Our new issue of Girlfriend Getaways officially comes out today, and we're proud like new parents. It's a treat to work on a different magazine sometimes, even for the guys. Though I had a weird moment talking about Girlfriend Getaways on Fox News recently...

After asking me all of the normal questions, the host, a woman, asked me if I had any advice for women out there about how exactly they should go about asking permission from their husbands to take a girlfriend getaway. I froze... Permission? What decade is it?

I got my issue in the mail yesterday and read it front to back and then back to front (Literally!) right away! great job!

It will be a great resource for me & my friends in our future planning.

My hand is "WAY UP" to volunteer for any future "girlfriend getaway" stories or contributions.

As for the comment about "permission" from the husbands...Mine knows it's an annual event and supports it. That might change though if we were to decide to do a more lengthy stay (beyond 3 days) or more costly trip, it might require a bit more planning on the home front simply out of respect for our family finances and other family obligations. No one wants to see money used for girls trips (or boys trips for that matter!) if some other goal isn't being met as a result. If we want it bad enough, we make it happen!

Our group of friends are all at different places in their lives with their families so we have to be careful to accomodate all of our situations. One is a single mom of a toddler, one is a divorced mom of two young kids, one is newly married with out children, one is married with two young children, and I'm married but with teenagers at home. So our financial freedoms are all a bit different as are our "at-home" obligations.

This yr, we chose a relatively inexpensive year and we will go to Huntington Beach, Ca for 3 days but we hope to shoot for Hawaii in 2-3 yrs. We've given each girl notice to plan it out with their families/spouses and budgets!
Keep up the great work, i look forward to "vacationing" to all these exciting places each month as I sit and read my favorite magazine...BUDGET TRAVEL ROCKS!!

When I arrived home this afternoon, tired after my long drive home to Ct. from my girlfriends' weekend in Montreal, what did I see on the kitchen table but Girlfriend Getaways with an article about Montreal! I sat down immediately and relived the entire wonderful weekend via your article, including my huge portion of "poutine" which I find quite delicious, strange though it may seem. Montreal is indeed the perfect place for a Girlfriend Getaway. Thanks for a great mag!

These are great suggestions! However, I still have yet to partake in the most cliche girlfriend get-away imaginable--a weekend in Vegas!

I have been looking forward to reading Ann Hood's article for your magazine since last November when Ann spoke at our Scholastic sponsored bookfair at Montclair Kimberley Academy. I googled today and just found your first issue with Ann's wonderful and amusing article about her trip to Lake Como with her girlfriends. I have ordered 5 copies for my college girlfriends from Skidmore. Since 1974 we try to get together somewhere every year. Please invite Ann Hood to share some more of her "girlfriend stories" - she is such a joy to read! How can I get a subscription?
