Rosie O'Donnell's cruise company for families with gay members, R Family Vacations, has decided that its ship won't stop at Bermuda after all--because it didn't want passengers to have to deal with protests by church groups. What a shame. The best way for people to get comfortable with us--and by "us" I mean both gay people (which includes me) and also anyone who feels different from society at large--is to actually interact with them. It's a missed opportunity, and a surprising one from someone who makes a living being upfront and outspoken.

Your points are good, but you have to remember that this is a vacation. We spend our whole lives making people okay with us. Sometimes we just want to be where people are already okay, so that we can relax.

Of course it will fail. Laws are designed by God not by people. Failure is always the case when we try and substitute God's laws with flawed, man-made laws.

I would like to thank Ms. O'Donnell for her wonderful efforts to create a common awareness and recognition for all kinds of people, straight or gay (partly because I happen to have a gay child of my own). And I also would like to say how much I personally admire her as an actress, activist for community charities, and a very special kind of parent who deserves an award for a great deal of courage and commitment to make a difference in the life of a child who was left behind by thier natural family for whatever reasons.

I am watching the HBO special about the cruise. I have a hard time thinking people would discourage loving, hardworking people from having children. There are so many kids in this world that live not knowing love and a value to their lives. It doesn't matter how gives them that love, all children deserve it. All I see on this special is people giving their love to children who deserve it, need it and flourish from it.
Those of you who feel that these people are breaking God's commandments, when you meet your maker, tell him that you felt that children should live without love instead of living in a house with a same sex couple. Let me know how that works for you.
I hope you NEVER feel the same way some of these children feel when they have to explain the love they have for another person or the way that these children feel when they have to explain why someone loves them.
