(The image on the left is of a $4 bag of dates with a silly label on it -- "Dat'cha!" --that was recently for sale at the Julius Meinl store in downtown Vienna. But surely you've found supermarket souvenirs that are more fun or exotic than that. Hope to hear from you soon!)

I ask for the "freebie" beer pads at all the establishments we visit in foreign countries ...People love them for souvenirs!
Several years ago I framed about 30 various colorful beer pads and won a blue ribbon at the fair with it!
It hangs in my kitchen for comments and memories!

In Germany, that coaster is known as a Bierdeckel. In many establishments, they use these to run your tab, marking on the edge each time you get a beer. They are good souvenirs, cheap, light, easy to pack!

My recent favorite souvenir is from The Bull and Whistle Pub in Key West.
It's a card reading "Gone to Pee - Leave my Drink Alone"

Spices are a specialty item I always purchase at a foreign supermarket. Pepper (Poivre noir) and Parsley (Peterselie) take on a certain flair in my spice rack.

My husband and I always buy coffee in the super markets. When we drink it at home, it brings back the wonderful memories. I also buy local tea to bring home. Coffee from Italy is great at home.
