Welcome to This Just In,
Budget Travel's new blog. It's a great way for us to keep you updated on the latest in travel-related news. Travel is one of those things where if you did it all the time you'd get really good at it; unfortunately, few people get to do it all the time. As a result, the best way to make our travels as satisfying as they can possibly be is to pool our knowledge.
Budget Travel editors will be posting whenever we learn something interesting--and we hope you'll chime in with your two cents whenever you feel the urge.
We encourage users to analyze, comment on, and even challenge the articles, blogs, reviews, and multimedia features of BudgetTravel.com.
User reviews and comments that include profanity or personal attacks or other inappropriate comments or material will be removed from the site. Additionally, entries that are unsigned or contain "signatures" by someone other than the actual author will be removed. Finally, we will take steps to block users who violate any of our posting standards, terms of use or privacy policies or any other policies governing this site. Please review the full rules governing commentaries and discussions.
I'm looking forward to participating ... as soon as I figure out how to get to the blog site.

How to avoid the single supplement, IOW sites/organizations/cruises/ etc, that do not punish the single traveler?

I'd like to see some discussion of travel in the Middle East: Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, etc.

I would like to see on the travel blog a daily survey of the best travel packages available. I often find I have just missed a good offer. Plus packages, cruises, and tours motivate me to plan trips.

You just made our day with your wonderful article on US train trips! This anticipated trip has been in our plans for years, but hadn't yet done the research to decide exactly where to go! The Denver to Oakland (California Zephyr) is just what we have been looking for!

Grand Canyon, PA supposedly has much potential for a weekend trip; any contributions and suggestions would be wonderful!

I wish BT opened back the "Forum" they had before where users could exchange travel ideas about destinations, tourist traps, good hotels, restaurants, etc by country.
Frommer's website has it and I think it will only add value to your website/magazine if you did open it again.
Please consider this in the near future.

One thing Budget Travel could use is an index of articles by subject matter that is updated quarterly.

This sounds like a neat blog

Perhaps do more on 'green travel'..closer to home getaways where you can get there by train and walk or use the subway...e.g. Cambridge, Massachusetts, Harvard Square, a mecca of restaurants and shops; and outdoor lovers can go kayaking on the Charles River, or explore the Harvard Museum of Natural History with its world famous 'glass flowers', minerals (and meteorites) dinosaurs, and zoological galleries.

Ditto to John's posting earlier this morning. A periodic index of articles by subject matter would be ever-so-helpful.

I'd like to see suggestions for reasonably priced multi-generational family destinations - e.g., right now, I'm looking for an East Coast summer destination that includes ocean, bay or lake, things to do for toddler and 20-somethings and 50-60 somethings. Thanks!

More about single travel - what groups are going where, and when travel agencies/cruises are allowing singles to go without the supplement. There are so many of us and the travel world does not seem to recognize it.

I would love to see info. for the single traveler listed on a regular basis. This information is often hard to find without contacting each vendor.

Good luck with your blog. I like you new web design. And I like the idea of a travel blog.

Maybe having a section where people let us know where the hot spots, must-sees, and the best of the best eats are to get a taste of in their fair city. Where someone on a budget could max out their travel dollar.

I would like to travel and know that I can get lodging and pay for one (1) person. Everything is always quoted for a double and since I will only use the facilities for one person, why whould I pay for two? This "single supplement" business is for the birds.

I would like itemized breakdowns of trip info when you blog about trips available so we can pick and choose when we try to repeat trips.

Would like some road trips for seniors. Example: I have plans for a 2008 trip from WA state to Alberta, two night stop over in Glacier Nat'l Park. I have the planning to do for two couples.

Amen to all those asking about the Single Supplements, what a royal rip off! It's time for Budget Travel Magazine to help us by using its influence and the power of its readers to change these archaic pricing policies. I'd also like to see some singles package offers that might be out there..... let's be clear that by singles I mean one person traveling vs. wanting a "singles cruise" or such. Thanks. BTW: LOVE the idea of a blog for budget travelers!

We took a Whole Views tour in India thoroughly enjoying the services of the drivers and guides. We recommend the trip.

Erik, Paul and I are looking for a hotel in Athens for one night before we start a cruise. It does not have to be fancy- just clean and friendly...any ideas?
Also, if you have any guides you would recommend in Cairo, Athens, Istanbul, and Izmir...we could avoid the ship's package tours,
thanks

I concur that information, such as Frommers shares, is very interesting.
Also would like to know more about smaller travel companies.

Hello Editor Erik,
We, the Aunt and Uncle, are taking nieces, age 15 and 13 to Ireland in June. Would like to locate one or two upscale country manors or B&B's from which to base two country walks. 3 nights at each property. Western Dingle and Connemara areas. Additionally - any castle recommendations? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Happy Trails. Ellen

Great website and looking forward to this added edition.
Just back from a week in New York City and we discovered a great rain day activity for early April-Macy's annual flower show. It is held every year for the past 100 or so for two weeks in April. Literally every inch of free counter and floor space was filled with spring floral displays.
Best of all it is free. What a great surprise.

Dear Marvin and the other readers who commented on this blog post about the need for more coverage for single travelers. Marvin,
Thanks for your comment on our blog.
In light of your and other readers’ comments about the need for more coverage of single travelers,
Budget Travel has decided to do a package of tips for single travelers. We’ll do that before summer hits.
We’re also going to re-instate the listing of single supplement costs in our magazine’s 40 Best Deals feature.
And we’ll keep track of low-cost deals for single travelers on our blog.
Thanks again for your feedback.

My wife and I enjoyed the best vacation ever in Costa Rica in February, with one exception: renting a car. The car was included in a package deal from a travel agency. The transportation system is geared to the tourist. There are NO street signs or route markers so you are constantly lost. Locals are helpful and friendly, but independent travel times are hard to believe. (Quepo at the coast to Cartago inland 100 miles 8 hours).
Leave the driving (or flying) to the Costa Rican natives. They are expert and accommodating!

I would like to see a bulletin-board posting comments on restaurants/hotels/motels around the country. Honest reader critiques always beat "paid" surveyors as far as I'm concerned. Indy race fan.

Your feeds to Google Reader are very hard to read.
Separate topics all run together.

I do like the idea of being able to search the blog for comments on certain countries. I just got back from a dive trip to Bonaire and recently had great fun in Fiji and Italy. I would be glad to share my experiences and any insights. Likewise, it would be nice for me to discuss ideas with others who have made a trip I am considering. Thanks.

Can you please put a simple RSS link on the side in addition to the rss readers? Some browsers have built in readers and we only need a simple rss link. I would really like to add This Just In to my rss feeds.
