It's the final round of our Blog-Off Contest!
Posted by: Budget Travel, Thursday, May 3, 2007, 12:53 AM

More than 80 people have entered our Blog-Off Contest, competing for a chance to win $500 and become a guest-blogger. We've picked our four favorite entries, based on writing quality and "informativeness." (See full contest rules here.) The person whose entry receives the most comments during the next week will win. So you can help pick the winner by posting comments now!

Here are our four finalists in no particular order:
A young man goes to Belgium on a quest for the world's most elusive beer.--Nick Wusz
An exhausted mother learns how to find spa bargains.--Kyla Kelim
The author offers advice to a first-time Vietnam visitor.--"Ourman"
A food-lover's list of the best places for budget travelers to eat in eight cool places.--Roselyn Sugay-Helbling

You had me hooked from the very beginning and I don't even drink beer! I thoroughly enjoyed following along on your trip and was eager to see how it all ended. Not much of a "beer bust" but a damn good read. Diana

Being a bit of a beer aficionado myself (but nothing like Nick), I vote for the 'worlds most elusive beer' blog. And here I thought I was bad going to 5 different stores looking for a particular brand! Good on you Nick!

I'm so sorry that I didn't know of the contest. My husband is an awesome blogger and the attached URL was the blog he started when I was pregnant. We had a very difficult pregnancy and delivery, thank GOD our baby turned out to be healthy and beautiful but along the way he's writing helped us through and we had so many supporters, he'd continually get told that he should publish his blog and become a writer. Even one of the Pregnancy websites added our URL to their main page. Take a look although I know it's probably too late...

I vote for how to find a spa. Now I am going to call the 3 local massage schools. Thanks, Nina

I don't know what the other entries were like, but what happened to basic spelling and grammar rules?! Does NO ONE have SpellCheck or GrammarCheck on his computer, or does no one teach [much less LEARN] anything in "school" any more?! I'm appalled at the level of "writing" on all four of these blogs... If you do put any of these in the magazine, rest assured that this will be one page I will SKIP the minute I see it. It may also lead to my canceling my subscription, if this is the trend in your "journalism."

Nick's story made me laugh, thirst for a beer too early in the day, and want to book a European trip. I also loved that in the middle of his crazy trip, he stood back and noted that there had been beautiful days in the midst of a horrible war. That line will stay with me.

I vote for the beer blog! I'm not a beer fan but the way he wrote about his adventure and the details pulls you in. I would enjoy reading his blog space and it gives me the same type of insight and excitement that I expect from travel lovers as myself. This style is also why I enjoy my subscription to Budget Travel.

I did enjoy the food blog but I would have like to read more on the places that go along with the food but that would be my runner up choice.

Great job and good luck to all 4!!
