More $10 fares! Skybus adds cities

Starting Dec. 5, discount airline Skybus will fly to Chattanooga, Punta Gorda–Ft. Myers, Milwaukee, and Gulfport–Biloxi.

Learn more about Skybus in this earlier blog post.

Despite lots of snarky comments in the press and the blogosphere, this Columbus-based airline has packed its planes full of passengers. The additional gateways will bring the number of cities Skybus serves to 15.

How can Skybus afford to offer such low fares? It's superefficient. Each of its five planes average 13.2 hours of flights per day. In contrast, United and America West, using the same model plane, fly fewer hours: 11.9 hours a day, says BloggingStocks. More hours means more cost savings for Skybus and its passengers.

I flew from Columbus to Greesboro, NC and back this summer. Except for a short delay with the return trip, the experience was as advertised: no frills, on time, and inexpensive. I will be using Skybus as often as opportunities allow. I only wish they would add Pittsburgh so I could avoid the drive to Columbus.

Does Skybus fly between Ft. Myers, FL and Gulfport/Biloxi? If so what is the approximate cost?

Hi, Audrey,
Right now, no. You have to fly to Columbus Ohio and then back again. However, starting in December, Skybus will begin to offer routes that do not go directly through Columbus, and it may start this service. We'll keep an eye on it.
You can see schedules at Skybus.com
Best,
Sean

My husband and I have flown on Skybus several times now (to N. H. and MA.) -- it really works for us since we are in Canton, OH and we have family in CT. We have found the flights to be quite pleasurable. We have purchased the cheese and fruit plate on the plane and it was also enjoyable. We will be taking another flight this weekend and again in Oct. I will sacrifice some of the frills to save the big money!

I just read about your Skybus flights and they do sound interesting, but since we live in IN we were wondering if at some time in the future you might plan on having a location in IN where we could fly out of.

Fly in and out of Monroe, La. and the planes will be full. We need some good competition here.

Do you know when Skybus updates their fares and adds a new month?
