Southwest Airlines announced today that it plans to begin trials of satellite-to-airplane broadband Internet service sometime on four airplanes this summer. Passengers with WiFi enabled devices, such as laptops, will have full Internet access, via a high-speed connection.
Meanwhile, American Airlines is installing high-speed Internet service on its 15 planes that it uses mostly for cross-country trips.

Hooray! It is about time!!
And, Sean, here's a question for you. Why the heck don't airlines have electrical outlets at seats the way trains do, or at least some way of recharging one's equipment?

Wifi is needed, however, electrical outlets would be a great task, as the generator needed to power said outlets would take up not only room, but a serous amount of weight on the plane. At least that's what i'm assuming.

SOME planes DO have laptop power outlets. You need to do some research to discover what airlines, which of their planes and what seats.

Googling "Airlines: Laptop power" has that link and a bunch of others.
Hope this helps. Power to the Laptops!
