Our sources tell us that, starting at 1 a.m. EST on Friday—known as Black Friday because of strong post-Thanksgiving retails sales—Hotels.com will put on sale about 500 hotels in more than 100 cities, for travel through Dec. 31.
We also expect that other travel websites will be putting hotels on sale. Good luck deal-hunting and Happy Thanksgiving!

Makes sense.
It was reported that this year there were 7 million less shoppers the Friday after Thanksgiving than there were last year. So if you're looking for a sale, retailers are looking for you.
I was just perusing iTunes and they also had Black Friday sales on some of their iPhone apps. Times really are tough when a company like Apple has something on sale, even if it is just a phone application.
Consumers really are needing to feel that there is some value for their dollar in the market place, be it a 99 cent phone app or a $200 dollar hotel room. And that emotional connection associated with getting a "deal" is what Black Friday is all about.
Even Saks (yes, Saks Fifth Avenue) was getting in on the action. A friend of mine went crazy with the deals she was getting in the shoe department. A $1400 pair of boots for $750 - another pair of Jimmy Choos at 50% off. Now those are some bargains - I think.
