I think it's a good idea for US citizens to travel around USA. It would be good for other states to follow the example. This is a lovely and big country and is sad , but plane tickets are sometimes more expensive than going to foreign countries, it's time to value what we have here.

A little FYI....if you could fact check, Virginia is not a state, but a commonwealth.

This is a great idea and there isn't a state with more to do, more beautiful scenery and beaches, more history and people that are so pleasant and helpful. No matter how much you advertise, there is nothing better and word of mouth to get people interested in traveling to a specific place.
I can't think of a better place to go for families and or for couples.

Jackie, I agree wholeheartedly with your reasons to visit Virginia (though as a proud native, I may be biased). Everyone will find a reason to love it!
Brian, Virginia is a state; it is one of four that use the designation "commonwealth" (one of the meanings of which is "state"). The other three are Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, and Kentucky.

"Originally commonwealth meant a state or nation-state governed for the common good as opposed to an authoritarian state governed for the benefit of a given class of owners." You don't hear, 49 states and 1 commonwealth compose the United States of America. Get real, Brian!

I was born in VA while my dad was stationed there. I moved back to the midwest when I was 2 so I never really "knew" Virginia. I treated myself and my husband to a long weekend a couple years ago over Labor Day and was impressed with the natural beauty I found there. I had seen pictures from 40 years ago but was pleasantly surprised at how pristine the roadways were and the sceenery was wonderful. We drove a couple hundred miles out into the country and visited Virginia Beach. I hope to go back some day so I can explore this beautiful state and get to know it better.

I live on the water in Virginia. I live on a creek, but have an awesome view of the Rappahannock River. I grew up in the Northern part of the state near DC. Every time I tour the state I fall more and more in love with it!

I grew up in Ohio, but I've called Virginia home for the past 10 years. We are in western Loudoun County, not too far from the Shenandoah River, with great views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. I hope everyone comes to visit this beautiful state, whether they win the contest or not. It is full of varied terrain, wonderful people, and endless activities. I love to travel and am frequently awed by many places, but my soul belongs in Virginia.

I am from Pennsylvania, (the other commonwealth state). Several years ago, my husband and I visited Shenandoah National Forest, and drove thru the Blue Ridge Mtns. We loved it so much, we returned the following year. If we had to move one day, Virginia would be our dream state. We think the people are so friendly, and the scenic views are gorgeous. We love to go hiking...and V has just as many trails as PA. Also love your sweet potato fries!

As a Canadian, I'm disappointed :( that I can't enter to win a trip to Virginia. My husband and I visited relatives there last year and can honestly say, it was one of our best holidays ever, and we have traveled to quite a few places. Win a trip or not though, we'll go back - it has something for everyone!
