It's a season of astonishing deals, but this one stood out today: Travelzoo is currently featuring a hotel deal for The Alexander Inn in Philadelphia for just a dollar a night, and there's no minimum stay, by clicking here. CLARIFICATION (Mar. 20, 2:30 p.m.: As reader Lisa notes, it is $1 for one night; additional nights will be at a higher rate.)
The centrally located, 48-room The Alexander Inn also serves breakfast. Rated the #2 hotel in Philly according to TripAdvisor users, it's quite the find.
The inn is a short walk from the free attractions of Independence National Historical Park, whose many historical interpreters in period costume periodically "enlist" kids in the army, hand them wooden "muskets," and march them around (daily; visit the Independence Visitor Center for times).
Megabus links Philadelphia to from New York City, with an average fare of $10 each way. A cab or subway ride from the bus stop to the inn costs about $7.
Southwest recently offered round-trip fares to Philly from Dallas for $246 and from Seattle for $308. Find additional airfares at Fly.com and other travel sites.

Oops--this article isn't quite on target. The $1 a night applies only to the FIRST night. Still a great deal, though.

My sister and I stayed at the Alexander Inn a year ago and loved it. It was a warm oasis in the middle of winter and the staff was very helpful and friendly. It has charm and style!
