Back from Paris and ready to report

To reader Seakat, I asked for a macaron at McDonald's, but this was the closest they had (Courtesy Laura MacNeil)

Now that I've (barely) recovered from macaron withdrawal, I wanted to thank you again for all of the advice you gave me before I left! Your comments were a great resource as I scouted the city. I made it to almost every macaron establishment mentioned in the comments, so stay tuned for a slide show about my discoveries and preferences. I'd particularly like to thank Melissa Whitlock, Kate, Anne Buchanan, and Melissa for their suggestions.

Thanks also to Elizabeth and Margaret for their recommendations of Studio 28 and all the movie houses along rue Champollion. When I stopped by the Art Deco movie palace Grand Rex, though, I learned it has the unfortunate habit of dubbing all its international films into French. I'll be compiling all my research into an article about destination-worthy cinemas throughout the city.

Carla in Canada suggested a great falafel place in the Marais—thank you! L'As du Fallafel was fantastic. Let me follow that up by saying that if you continue along rue des Rosiers towards the Pompidou center and make a right at Rue Vielle du Temple, you'll spot a park lined with benches a little bit up on your left; it's an ideal falafel-eating location.

I'll be posting more Paris articles and hotel reviews in the coming weeks—plus, if all goes well, a somewhat-humorous video about trying to crack the Velib bike system. As always, your feedback is welcome!

I was just in Paris for a B&B conference, called "Passion Chambres d'Hotes" held at an interesting conference location in the heart of the Marais. We survived a long day at the conference thanks to amazing pitas with falafel and also chicken from the same place. Delicious. We had dinner at the nearby Chez Omar -- not very Moroccan, but tasty, reasonably priced specials, and friendly service. The Marché des Enfants Rouges, nearby and also on the rue du Bretagne also looked great for lunch or dinner -- buy from the stalls and eat on the picnic tables, but it was too chilly for outside dining.

WOW! I embarked on this trip not knowing how the CDG airport could be so receptive to tourists. Having not mastered French but just know few phrases and words here and there, I was so surprised that yes, Paris is much more than what I have read about.
I was there from April 4th AM arrival until April 8th AM departure. During my first Friday evening until my last night, I have grown accustomed to my neighborhood in the Parmentier / Avenue Republique area. I stayed at the Hotel De Nemours, which did not let me down. It was quite right for a single guest and the hotel staff were all so helpful.
Arc de Triomphe, Champs Elysses, Notre Dame Cathedral - where I attended SAT Mass in the very front row with the Ambassador of Greece. Mass was said in French but overall, I was in it. Enjoyed every moment in the Metro, never felt lost in the streets of Paris since one alley led to another, and then, to the main Avenues.
Springtime in Paris could not have been matched by any other country, I bet. The weather was perfect, I was there for the very First Marathon in Paris, perfect view around the Eiffel Tower area near the finish line.
Restaurants and Clubs/lounges at the Latin Quarter were great. Music was even better from the places, big or small.
Heck, I am even planning another trip back there soon. My first time was so good that I did not want to leave.
This time, I will look for a Spain, Italy, London and Paris itinerary. If you don't hear from me in about 1 month, that means I have decided to stay in one of those places.
Au Revoir!

Welcome back Laura! I'm so pleased you made it to Studio 28. I hope you had a nice glass of something in the little courtyard before your movie--it's quite a magical place, isn't it? I'm looking forward to your upcoming Paris reports. I can't wait to get back to this amazing city!

I read with great interest your blog today and was glad to learn about the Passion Chambres d'Hôtes program. I would love to learn more. In the meantime, I would like to send a copy of my Ebook or paperback Best Buys to French Chic to you and other editors at Budget Travel. How do I go about doing this? Please advise. Thanks so much, Rachel Kaplan
