Branson, Mo., receives 8 million visitors a year, who are drawn to its more than 50 theaters and 100 live shows. But getting there isn't easy. Located in southern Missouri, Branson's closest airport has been Springfield, Mo.—about an hour away.

Thankfully, on Monday, a $155-million airport opens in Branson. (Fun fact: It's the first commercial airport in the country to be financed, built, and operated privately.)

To celebrate, Branson is hosting its first-ever air show, with performances by the elite U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, a collection of F-16s whose pilots execute 30 high-flying maneuvers in one show—including a six-plane formation that's so close you'll hold your breath.

The US Army Golden Knights and the Aeroshell Aerobatic Team, among many others, will also perform. The show starts Friday night, with events scheduled through Sunday. Besides fantastic displays of aerial wizardry in the sky, there will also be historic aircraft on display.

The Branson Airport officially opens on Monday, with a 7,140-foot runway and a terminal with four gates. AirTran and Sun Country will provide service from cities like Atlanta, Dallas, and Milwaukee (Airfarewatchdog.com spotted a $129 round-trip flight between Dallas and Branson). Read more about the airport on msnbc.com.

For more info on all of Branson's year-round shows and activities, visit its official website.

Tickets to the air show are $18 for adults at the gate and $6 for kids 6-12 (kids under 6 free).

WORST airshow I have ever been to. 1hr wait on Rt.65 with absolutely NO traffic control on the Highway, people were driving to the front of the line without waiting like the rest of us... A 30 minute wait for a bus marked with lot M, while we were being picked up at lot D. (return trip was a bit confusing) Then we got to wait on the bus for 1hr, but at least I got to see the heritage flight, and B-2 flying through the trees as we were winding down the ONLY ROAD IN. After we got to the airport after a TEN mile one way trip, we were lucky enough to only have to wait another hour to get our tickets... at the only entrance they had open. After a brief search by a CAP boy not even old enough to have to shave before first formation, we were in... Okay now I really have to go to the bathroom, oh, another 30min wait for the port-o-potty line, or blob of people all in desperate need to unload... $4 for a corndog, $7 for a cheesesteak, $3 for water, while those prices are expected, only added to the entire Branson Airshow experience. Can't say much for the flight line as it was blocked by a huge mound of dirt, flanked by Bratwurst,Smoothie, and Lemonade venders.

The wait for the buses back to the parking lot reminded me of UN food handouts in Somalia. ONE volunteer to direct a huge mass of tired, broke, and drunken people all wanting to do the same thing at the same time. I seen two drunken rednecks telling a man and wife they were going to push them in front of a buss, then as they were getting on the bus one of the rednecks tried to swing at the man while he cowered next to his wife. One bus would open its doors, and lack of any crowd control turned it into a mad dash to the door, women, the elderly, and children be dammed.

Oh, and the bus M we took into the show, we were told we needed lot G, but we actually needed lot D... whatever parking lot we needed, as long as we were out of the concentration camp like lines, I could care less.

I have never felt so powerless, and completely out of control with safety for my family, and those around me. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER. I would recommend this airshow to Ossama Bin Laden, Saddam, Hitler, and Keith Obberman. I don't want my money back, just give it to the ONE lady trying direct the buses.

The air show was great, the food prices was overboard, but to be suspected. I took my 3 year old grandson who really enjoyed the show, I just forgot the sun sceen. The line in traffic was long. We waited for about 2 1/2 hours in traffic, some people turned around, their loss. I bought my tickets on line so the wait was not long. I drove all the way to the show, better than the bus ride I'm sure. It was Branson first air show, they will get better the more they have. The Thunderbirds was alsome as well as the other planes. They deserve a lot of credit.
