New York: Statue of Liberty Crown tickets now for sale
Posted by: Budget Travel, Saturday, Jun 13, 2009, 11:39 AM

You can once again visit the crown of Lady Liberty. Ticket sales online resumed this morning after a multi-year pause. Visits begin July 4, but the first few days have already sold out. The cost for adult admission is $15, including the cost of the $12 ferry ride and access to the rest of the national park.

Although the base, pedestal, and lower observation deck reopened to the public in the fall of 2004, the crown has remained closed since 9/11. But an interior redesign has now made it possible to evacuate people from the top in case of an emergency, and the Statue's crown once again offers views of the harbor.

Park officials are responding to a big downturn in visitor numbers: 3.6 million people visited the Statue of Liberty in 2000, but six years later, that number had gone down to 2.5 million.

I just want to clarify something, someone told me that you have to register yourself and then they will check your backgroud and only then you will be allowed to go on the statue, is this true or you can just purchase tickets online and go.

Jeet,
You can just buy your tickets and go. Instructions on the website noted above.

Tickets to see the crown at Liberty Island are SOLD OUT until September :(

I(from Holland) will be visiting New York City at the end of July and am very disappointed that all the tickets to visit the Statue of Liberty are sold out. Does anyone know if there is a way to get hold of tickets anyway? Thanks. If not, of course I will visit both Liberty and Ellis island regardless.

I would also like to know the same as Danielle - I am visiting New York from Spain on Thanksgiving week and it looks like all crown tickets are sold out. Anyone know where I can buy them?
Thanks.
