Statue of Liberty: Crown tickets sold out until September
Posted by: JD Rinne, Monday, Jul 6, 2009, 3:41 PM

As we reported a few weeks ago, the Statue of Liberty crown is accessible once again after almost eight years. Tours started up July 4, and the holiday weekend was sold out.

Planning a trip? Be sure to make reservations in advance. We did a search and discovered that crown tickets are currently sold out until September 15! You can still get to the pedestal area and museum, but if you want the crown, better plan now. Many thanks to reader Henry, who commented on a previous post with this news.

The cost for adult admission is $15, including the cost of the $12 ferry ride and access to the rest of the national park.

Hi,
We are planning a trip to NYC this weekend. Do I need reservations to get to the pedestal area of the statue and do we need ferry reservations?

Nancy - you definitely want to buy advance tickets to avoid the purchase line there. You still have to wait in security lines. There is an additional fee to go to the pedestal. We did it two weekends ago. http://www.statuecruises.com/ We waited an hour and half once on the island to get into the pedestal. The crown tour only allows 30 people up an hour due to the double helix staircase so not many people will get that chance since it's only 240 a day.

What is the appropiate web site to get tickets for ferry ride and Liberty crown? Hope to travel from NJ side.

Thanks

Hi Roger,

You should visit statuecruises.com to make reservations for tickets. Here's the link: http://statuecruises.com/ferry-service/welcome.aspx.

You can select departures from NYC or NJ.

Enjoy your visit!

Hi,
We're thinking of bringing our grandson to NYC on
July 20 for two nights. We want to do lots of sightseeing things for kids and are looking for
affordable lodging with parking. Any ideas?
Thanks

We have a two year old toddler and I was wondering whether we would be permitted to bring (carried in a harness) him up to the crown with us. Would he need a separate ticket?

This is one of the 8 wonders of the world. It’s really so beautiful. You must visit it.

It's good that they now allow only 30 people per hour because the stairway is narrow and you can get stuck behind slow climbers. My husband and I were there decades ago and ran from the ferry to the elevator so we wouldn't have to slow down. A younger man and his son were the only ones ahead of us. The four of us got to the top without delay and had ample time to enjoy the view before the crown got crowded. The stairs are not easy unless you are in very good shape. I would not advise bringing a toddler. You'd have to carry him up many flights. Wait until he is school age. BTW, my great-grandfather was a sculptor on the statue, working on the arm holding the torch. Put dot com after my name for travel info. Barbara DesChamps

You know, this really sucks. I can't believe how difficult it is to try to get tickets to go up to the crown. I tried to get tickets online, and couldn't. So I tried calling the phone liberty cruises phone number. I sat on hold for literally 15 minutes to get someone. They basically told me it was sold out until next year. How lame. I saw on the website, you could purchase tickets for the 9AM departure. Too bad it was already 9:45AM. They also have a 12PM departure, so its like you have to wait until the day you want to go to see if theres any tickets available.

I've always wanted to go to the crown of the statue my whole life. I went to the SOL once when I was in 8th grade. My teacher who was my chaperon was "afraid of heights" so I never got a chance to go to the crown......now I finally get to go to NYC again and STILL can't go to the crown. Its very disappointing.
