Free admission to hundreds of museums on September 26
Posted by: Brad Tuttle, Thursday, Sep 10, 2009, 2:35 PM

Museum Day is coming. Smithsonian magazine is sponsoring a day of free admission to hundreds of museums and cultural centers on Saturday, September 26.

On that day, visitors can get in free at spots such as New York City's South Street Seaport Museum (where adult tickets are normally $10), the Virginia Museum of Natural History (normally $9), and the California State Railroad Museum in Sacramento (normally $9).

To get free general admission (and it's general admission only, no IMAX showings or other extras), you must fill out a form online, print it out, and bring it in to the museum of your choice. Download the form here. To find out about participating museums and other information, check out the Museum Day website.

Thank you Smithsonian. Your museums are great. It is a wonderful opportunity for those who otherwise could not afford the entry fee.

Thanks Budget Travel...you are my hero. I would never have known about Museum Day if not for you! BTW...thanks for the tip on the free weekends at our National Parks too! My friends and family all enjoyed it!

The free admission day tickets will not print.

Hi G. McFerrin,
I just went through the process myself using a different name and address, and it worked for me.
Maybe your Web browser has a setting that prevents "pop ups" from appearing. The card/tickets appear as a "pop-up window." You may need to go to "options" on at the top of your Web browser, and select "allow pop-ups" for the Smithsonian's website.
Kind regards,
Sean
