They say an apple a day keeps the doctor away. You could probably get your apple fix for the entire year at the North Carolina Apple Festival, held in Hendersonville, N.C., this weekend.

The state's apples are mostly red and golden delicious, Rome beauty, and gala. At the festival, there will be 14 local apple growers present, selling goodies like apple ice cream, apple freezes, and fried apple pie (yum).
Hendersonville is about two hours west of Charlotte, N.C. Festival organizers expect more than 225,000 people to attend. How do you like them apples?

My wife and I stopped by this event twice last year, primarily for the Southern Breakfasts at a Church near the downtown - hosted by different groups each morning - look at the Ashville area newspapers for info. The Street Fair had interesting booths and lots of bulk apples. Its important to note that Hendersonville is close to Ashville, N.C. somewhere around 45 minutes away.

From downtown Hendersonville, Asheville is only 25-30 minutes away via I-26 (I live in South Asheville). The Apple Festival is a lot of fun and it's a great place to purchase different kinds of apples from local growers.
