The best alternative to Stonehenge is...Stonehenge, the whole rest of the archaeological park, which costs absolutely nothing to visit!! The standing stones are a monument, just part of a larger living area; do you really need to pay almost $10 just to walk up for a closer look? Buy the very helpful Stonehenge booklet instead and learn how the ancient inhabitants lived. Then follow the map in the back to explore the rest of the park on grassy trails with helpful informational signs telling about life in a long-ago era. You can see ancient burial mounds and other remains; walk nearby pathways with views of fields, sheep and deer; see some of the other monuments in the surrounding area; then visit the nearby town of Amesbury on the River Avon for an authentic slice of small-town life. Thank you!
