Sorry, Margate, the easternmost point of the U.S. is in the Aleutian Islands of Alaska at 179 degrees east longitude! Right next door lies the westernmost point in the U.S. at 179 degrees west.

Since the article is referring to travel Margate is right. By direction of travel Point Udall in St.Croix is the eastermost point of the U.S. You are also correct that by longitude Pochnoi Point, Semisopochnoi Island, Alaska is the eastermost part of the U.S.

Pochnoi Point, Semisopochnoi Island, Alaska (179° 46' E) is the eastern most point in all of U.S. territory by longitude. Amatignak Island, Alaska (179° 6' W) is the western most point in all of U.S. territory by longitude.

So let's see a picture of this spot in the Aleutians. After this conversation, I want to go visit both, but somehow I feel you probably cant get to Pochnoi Point from here.
