Why aren't more travel deals aimed at teachers? Leading by example is the small town of Ithaca. From Feb. 12-21, Ithaca is holding its fourth annual Winter Recess, with deals offered explicitly for educators and their families.

As a native of Ithaca and surrounding area, calling it a "small-town" is a misnomer. Small city is more appropriate. That said, it is a most beautiful city and the greatest waterfalls in the entire state, or east coast. Go and enjoy!

Um... as a 6 year resident of Ithaca, calling it a "small-town" is entirely accurate. I love the place, but how on earth can you think that some place with ~30K residents squeezed into a little valley, where the downtown encompasses maybe 10 square blocks, and where the tallest building is maybe 5 stories tall, any kind of "city"?

I spent 15 years in Ithaca, first at Cornell, then as a "townie" operating the towns sole gay bar. Many words can describe it: beautiful, progressive, isolated, diverse. It is not for everyone however. As I aged, I found myself a stranger among the predominantly college age population, yet somehow not feeling a part of the somewhat counterculture adult population. An ideal city for those inclined to such interests, and particularly to those who are already partnered. As a single man yearning for some of the experiences of the big city, it was time for me to move on.

What measurements are you using to claim that Taughannock Falls are New York State's largest waterfall? Maybe height, but surely not volume or width, as that would be Niagara Falls. That being said, I've been to Taughannock Falls, and they are lovely, and Ithaca is a fantastic place.

By Upstate NY standards, Ithaca is definitely a city! A town has a downtown center of maybe 4 square blocks. Besides, Ithaca has a mayor and a City Council. It's a lovely SMALL city with friendly people, great restaurants, and beautiful scenery. I lived about 60 miles away for 15 years and never was able to visit Ithaca as much as I wanted to.

I've been many places around the world and Ithaca is still one of my favorites. This small city has many big city amenities in a beautiful, nature lovers environment.
